Output Plugin Properties

Output Plugin Properties let you configure how XSplit Broadcaster connects and sends your stream to a supported streaming service.

Different streaming services may show different Output Plugin Properties, but many of the main settings are shared across output plugins.

The available options may look different depending on the service. Some platforms may also lock or override certain settings for compatibility.

Channel

The Channel section contains the account or stream connection details for the selected output plugin.

The Channel section changes depending on the selected streaming service.

Depending on the platform, this may include:

  • Account authorization
  • Stream key
  • Server selection
  • Stream information options
  • Service type, such as RTMP or SRT

Most services require you to authorize your account before you can select a channel, event, or live video.

Test bandwidth

Click the Test bandwidth button to check your connection to the selected service or server.
This can help you confirm if your current connection can support your selected bitrate before starting your stream.

Ingest server color metrics

Some output plugins, such as Dailymotion and Restream.io, may show color metrics when selecting an ingest server.

Ingest server metrics help you choose a server with lower latency and more stable connection quality.

These values help you choose a server with better connection quality.

Metric

Description

Last

The most recent ping result to the ingest server.

Avg

The average ping based on recent samples while the server list is open.

Jitter

The variation between ping results. Lower jitter usually means a more stable connection.

In general, lower values are better.

Metric

Green

Yellow

Red

Last / Avg

Below 100 ms

100 to 199 ms

200 ms or higher

Jitter

Below 10 ms

10 to 19 ms

20 ms or higher

Green is ideal, Yellow may still work, and Red should be avoided when possible.

When choosing a server manually, look for a server with both low Avg and low Jitter. A server with the lowest Last value is not always the best choice if its jitter is high.

Video Encoding

The Video Encoding section controls how your video is encoded before it is sent to the streaming service.

Video Encoding settings control the codec, bitrate, keyframes, frame rate and resolution used for the stream.

Available Codec options can vary depending on your system hardware, installed drivers and the selected streaming service. For example, x264 is available as the default software encoder while options such as Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC or AMD VCE depend on your GPU or processor support.

Setting

Description

Codec

Selects the video encoder used for the stream. x264 is CPU-based, while other codec options such as H.264, HEVC or AV1 may depend on your hardware and platform support.

Bitrate (kbps)

Controls the video bitrate sent to the streaming service. Higher bitrates can improve quality, but also require more upload bandwidth. Recommended bitrate can vary depending on your streaming resolution and frame rate.

Mode

Selects bitrate mode between CBR or VBR when using the x264 codec.

Most streaming platforms require CBR as the bitrate mode. Do not switch to VBR unless you are sure that your platform supports it.

For best results, check the recommended bitrate guide for your selected streaming platform, then choose a bitrate that matches your resolution, frame rate and available upload speed.

The row below the main video encoding options shows a quick summary of the additional video encoder settings currently used. The settings shown vary depending on the selected Codec (and in the case of x264, also change depending on the selected bitrate mode). Click the gear icon on the right to open the Video Encoding Setup window.

Additional video encoder settings are intended for expert users. In most cases, the default settings should be used unless you need to meet a specific streaming platform requirement or advanced encoding setup.

Setting

Description

Keyframes

Shows the keyframe interval used for the stream. Some streaming services require a specific keyframe interval.

VBV Buffer

Shows the video buffer value used by the encoder. This is usually based on the selected bitrate or service requirements.

Video FPS

Shows the frame rate used for the stream. When set to Current Stage FPS, it matches the FPS configured in XSplit Broadcaster.

Video Size

Shows the resolution used for the stream. When set to Current Stage Resolution, it matches the resolution configured in XSplit Broadcaster.

Extra Param

Shows whether additional encoder parameters are being used.

Audio Encoding

The Audio Encoding section controls how your stream audio is encoded.

Audio Encoding settings control the audio codec, bitrate and audio format sent to the streaming service.

Setting

Description

Codec

Selects the audio codec used for the stream.

Bitrate (kbps)

Controls the audio bitrate sent to the streaming service.

Format

Selects the audio format, such as stereo.

Some services may limit which audio options are available.

Network Connection

The Network Connection section lets you choose which network adapter XSplit Broadcaster should use for streaming.

Use Network Connection to choose which network adapter XSplit Broadcaster should use for streaming.

You may want to select a specific adapter if your computer has multiple network connections, such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or a virtual network adapter. In most cases, leave this set to Let the system decide.

To use this option, you'll need to enable Allow outputs to specify their own network adapter under Advanced Settings.

Other Settings

Automatically save recording on local drive

Saves a local recording while streaming. Useful if you want a copy of your stream for viewing or editing later.

This recording will be an exact copy of the video stream sent to your streaming platform. For more options and settings, use the Record function alongside your stream.

  • Create multitrack recording of microphone and system audio

Enable this if you want the automatic local recording to save as separate tracks for editing audio separately. Tracks depend on your current Audio Mode.
Presentation Sources: Track 1-6. Click here to learn how to assign specific devices and sources to each track.
System Devices: Mixed, Microphone, System Sound, Application Audio and Stream Only plus Aux # tracks for Audio Devices added.

Enable Stream Delay

Adds a delay before your stream reaches viewers. This can be useful for competitive games or events where you want to prevent viewers from seeing your stream in real time.

Some output plugins may only support stream delay with specific service types, such as RTMP.

Remove this output

Removes the saved Output settings from XSplit Broadcaster.

This only removes the Output setting in XSplit Broadcaster. It does not delete your account or streaming service channel.
