Camera: Background Removal

XSplit Broadcaster offers various background removal options for your camera sources, whether you're using a green screen or not. Follow these steps to access and configure the different background removal modes.

Right-click the camera source in your presentation to open your Camera Source Settings then go to the Background Removal tab.

Once inside the Background Removal tab, you’ll have three Modes for background removal:
Automatic (BETA)
Chroma Key
Color Key

Automatic Background Removal (BETA)

Automatic background removal works without a green screen and uses VCam technology to remove your background in real-time.

Quality: Choose from Standard, High, or Highest to adjust the quality of background removal. Higher quality will use more hardware resources.
Hardware Acceleration: You can select Automatic or choose a specific CPU/GPU for processing.
Remove Chair: This option allows you to filter out or keep your chair visible in your camera feed.
Calibrate: Click Calibrate to optimize background removal based on your system hardware.

Chroma Key (Green Screen)

Chroma Key is the preferred method for users with a green screen, allowing you to remove the background effectively and is ideal for live camera feeds.

Color: Choose from Green, Blue, or Red, depending on your background.
Anti-Aliasing: Adjusts the smoothness of the edges between the subject and the removed background. Lower settings leave sharper edges, while higher settings make transitions smoother but may cause slight blurring of the subject. Choose from None, Low, or High.
Threshold: Adjust the range of colors removed by the keying effect. Lower values use a narrower range, meaning parts of the background may still show up due to shadows or uneven lighting on the background. Higher values will key out a broader range of similar colors but may accidentally remove parts of the subject if their colors are too close to the background color.
Exposure: Adjusts the brightness of colors near the keyed color. Can be used to reduce any shadows caused by uneven lighting or folds on your green screen.
(Optional) Legacy Chroma Mode: You can enable this mode if you prefer older chroma keying settings.

Color Key

Color Key works similarly to Chroma Key but is generally better suited for static images or elements with uniform colors. It is not recommended for use with camera sources due to color changes due to lighting and movement.
