Need an alternative to Virtual Audio Cable (VAC)

by thedukey » Aug 16, 2012

So for whatever reason I can't seem to get rid of the delay on my virtual audio cable setup. I'm using a two PC setup, my main sound coming from my main pc to line in on my streaming pc, and my microphone is a blue snowball usb microphone plugged into my streaming PC as well.

I get a delay with all audio using VAC, and hoping someone else has another program similar to it I could try!

Thanks for any feedback.

All programs of this type introduce a bit of a delay, though you could try Virtual Sound Card to see if you get better results.

I'll give it a shot, but it seems like I have over a second of delay, and its not really acceptable to me. I'll need to change up my setup if this is the case.

Possibly just get a new mic over changing around my whole stream PC.

A cheap second sound card to go along with onboard sound would work too, that's how I separate my Skype calls from my stream.

Yeah we talked about that a bit before, but I don't really want to separate the sound, i just want to mux (mix?) it to one channel for streaming of course. normally i can just select my usb microphone when its on the same PC, but xsplit doesnt seem to listen in on the line in side of things, only what audio the PC outputs.

how do you think a cheap sound card might do the trick?

setup again is as follows:

main pc speakers -> line in stream pc
blue snowball usb microphone plugged into the streaming pc as well

I tried that virtual sound card, works just as good as virtual audio cable, but still has a delay. seems to be .5-1 second worth of delay on the line in side of things. i dont really care if theres a video/audio delay on the microphone, mainly the line in sound is what i care about.

Sorry, I guess I should have said "cheap sound card and a normal mic" with a 3.5mm plug. :P But if you're trying to mix everything together then that wouldn't work. On your streaming PC could you enable the "Listen to this device" option for Line In and mirror it to the normal speaker output, then set your mic as the input source? No need to use VAC then.

im using windows vista on my streaming pc and dont have "listen to this device" on my mic.

i wonder if i can put my vista install on it without windows activation being annoying -.-

wonder if anyone can confirm windows 8 having "listen to this device"?

Maybe I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be, do you have a "Line In" option on your streaming PC? Default playback device -> Properties -> Levels tab
