Twitch IRC Chat Broadcast / Multi lines + Overlay

by bartoruiz » Fri Feb 15, 2013 8:54 am

===Overview===
My electric bill is already high enough and using a 2nd monitor just to screen capture twitch chat and interact with viewers didn't justify itself. So I forced myself to use only 1 monitor and develop some tools that hopefully other streamers will find interesting.

I'm the -do it once and do it right- kind of guy, so it took me quite of time but in the end I guess the script surpass my initial expectations and I guess is easy to setup. If you like my work:
* Optionally, you are welcome to invite me a beer.
* Forcefully, follow my twitch channel http://twitch.tv/gamerfamily
* Both :D

Download from here:

https://code.google.com/p/twitch-irc-chat-overlay-txt-output/

===Main Features===
#1 Chat log @ $mircdir/scripts/fullchatlines.txt ; saves N # of chat lines, mainly used for OBS Text source
#2 Chat logs @ $mircdir/scripts/chatline?.txt ; saves single chat line, mainly used for XSplit Titles source
#3 Chat Overlay (F7) ; Always on TOP resizable trasparent window; used to easily interact with viewers or just see the chat while gaming.
#4 last.fm current song @ $mircdir/scripts/nowplaying.txt
Many more, see the CHANGELOG.TXT for details.

===Install Instructions===
#1 Open mIRC and type: //run $mircdir/scripts
#2 Unzip the files (twitchat.mrc & viewers2txt.exe) inside that folder.
#3 At mIRC type: /load -rs scripts/twitchat.mrc
#4 Click YES at the 'run initialization commands' warning popup and configure to your needs.

===Update===
#1 Open mIRC and type: /unload -rs twitchat.mrc
#2 Follow the Install Instructions above and overwrite any previous file.

All seems great and stuff but, I have a request: could you make it so that the auto-login to twitch is optional? Or at the very least make it so when you click apply it opens a new server window?

I might be the only one, not sure, but I like to manually connect to twitch irc with a little menu mod for mIRC I made. Being able to just have the script enabled without making it connect would be super!

EDIT: Apparently it's also not saving username and password, having to enter it every time the script is used.

Thanks. This is really great! I'm a mod for a twitch.tv channel and am now using this to monitor chat while playing a game. The only issue I have is that it drags my fps down if i don't have it at zero transparency, although I'm sure its my video card not being up to the task more than an issue with this program.

If you are open to suggestions I have a few:

1. Have the ability to make only the text appear.
2. Have the ability to change the color of text. (so i can make it red and easy to read)
3. Add the ability to click through the window so it won't affect gameplay.

This is really cool and I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that would want to use this to monitor IRC/twitch.tv chat while gaming.

@Caucxican

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into it. Specially #2

@renegadeexf

According to this:

http://blog.8tracks.com/post/108814826/ ... fm-finally

You can configure 8tracks to scrobble to last.fm, that is pretty much what I do with grooveshark. last.fm just keep the history of your listenings. It works with many players and online music, its really a nice service and free.

@rest

Update to latest version v3.03, many features were added.

MackKnife,

Unfortunately, is not in my hands. It is the title source in Xsplit that should support multiple lines, maybe they will add in the future.

fullchatlines.txt is mainly there as an option because other streamming software already supports it.

MicPawnage,

If you wanna see the chat from your stream channel you can use the official justin/twitch/tv app for android:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... mRyb2lkIl0.

If you wanna see the chat from another channel, there are plenty of free IRC clients for android:

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=irc

After getting one you just need to login at justin/twitch/tv IRC server and join the desired channel:

http://www.justin.tv/p/irc_guide

The App Does Not Do Chat, All It Is a Fullscreen video, and you cant chat with that, Or See Chat.
------
I Checked out the http://www.justin.tv/p/irc_guide page, And Looking a the mIRC Part, but i dont under stand it all the way...

mIRC
This feature-rich client is the standard on windows. http://www.mirc.com/get.html To Authenticate: Under "Connect" enter your username from the site. Choose "Servers" from the list on the left. Click "Add." Enter mychannel.jtvirc.com as the IRC Server and in the "Password" box enter the same password you use for Justin.Tv in Your web browers. Click "add." Click "Select." Click "Connect to Server." Now you can Join "mychannel" and chat

What I Dont Get Is Click "Add." Enter mychannel.jtvirc.com as the IRC Server Can anyone Help me With It... And i Video Whould Be Nice But Not Recommended

-------------------------------------
Edit:
I Just When To Get IRC Chat But Nvm Cuz i not Paying $20 to Use a IRC Chat, and Android Irc Client Does Not Have mirc As An Option. So If Anyone Can Find Another Way That Would Be Great.

You better check twice, that JTV app shows the chat of your channel and you can see chat and interact, even the preview of that android app shows it.
